What is the history of BwanaZulia.com?

At long last the truth can be told.

Bwana Zulia (swahili for "Mr. Carpet") was started in the summer of 1996 as a place to sell the carpets and quilts made in Kenya to the internet masses. This was in the days when Amazon was just a river in South America and Google was just a way to talk to babies.

Bwana Zulia was a real company in Kenya East Africa which had been around for years. It was original Kufuma (Swahili for "to weave") but when it was taken over in 1995 it was relocated and renamed.

The Kenya Travel Guide was put up in 1996 as a way to increase traffic and hopefully sales but as the internet grew became the bigger and more successful part of the website.

Now BZ's Kenya Travel Guide has stood the test of time, years of internet boom and bust and is still here celebrating the 10th anniversary. Here is to another 10 years.
